Just had a nice text chat with Ashley this afternoon before I took a nap, or was that a coma that I fell into on the couch. It was actually a long nap during the "income property" shows on HGTV..
Ashley started out by saying that she had just booked a place to board her dog Bailey while she spends a couple of days at the river this summer with us. She will be in CA July 18-30 and we leave for the river on the 26th. But the resort Bransons doesn't allow dogs so she wasn't going to come with us, but then found a place in Havasu to board her until she leaves for home on the 30th. So she'll get a couple of days of river relaxing and boating in before she heads back to Texas.
Shock of this afternoon was coming home from work and finding the "GATE" open... I first assumed that Shane had come home quite early from work and was out with the dog perhaps at the dog beach like yesterday or for a walk... but there was a "white" lump laying in the usual dirt spot between our garage and side fence. I drove to the backyard and sure enough, even with the gate open, Curley was laying there fat and sassy just sleeping away the afternoon. Seemingly unaware that the gate was open and his chance to escape had passed him by, but than again he has two squares and all the love he could want, why leave? I called Shane just to see what was up, and he said that it was his week off at the station and that he was carpet cleaning.. so apparently the suspect was Greg and he definitely felt bad that he had driven out the driveway at about noon and never stopped to shut the gate.. Curley was up and about to greet him before he left, and I came home at about 1:00 or a little after to find the gate open. Now the other day, I pulled the gate shut but the latch didn't hook, I went into the house and when I looked out the back door about 15 minutes later, noticed the gate was open about 3 feet.. I went scurrying out the side door and found Curley standing in the neighbors front yard, when I called his name and motioned for him to come all nice so he wouldn't spook, he hung his head and headed straight for the backyard.. as if even he seemed to feel out of place being beyond the gate without one of the three of us with him.. thankfully I didn't have to go far to find him or drag his reluctant rear end he just trotted back as nice as you please..
So perhaps he remembered today when the gate for the first time EVER was left open as wide as could be.
Today I went to work as the middle of the week longing for the weekend and just kind of going to do the work (as is most days), I don't find a lot of enthusiasm for the get going when that alarm goes off at 3:50am.. it takes me a couple of hours to be awake before the office even after a shower. I've had a particular stack of work that needed to be attacked, contacting a slew of vendors whose Certificate of Liability Insurance was expired.. I had let this task go far to long.. So I was in the middle of that and a couple of others things simultaneously when the "manager" asked if I had a minute could I come in his office.. (hate when that happens, as it will generally add more work of some kind to myself in particular) so when I walked in and he asked me to shut the door.. hmm something confidential.. He asks me to take a seat.. and begins to give me GOOD news that the speech he had given me the week before and burst my enthusiasm bubble for extra hard work, had actually turned around and the company had reconsidered. Basically, I was told last week that the new policy was that due to the high # of years with the company and maxing the pay scale at my grade level that I was at, I had maxed out the possibility for a pay raise.. They set a percentage of the pay scale to your grade level and if you exceed it, no payraise. Now at the time I was surprised, ticked and deflated for the fact I had just gotten a great review for merit achievement and skill level of my responsibilities. Which at that point now seemed like a futile attempt of extra effort if not going to be rewarded.. so it's been a week since that conversation, it was really one sided and I complained enough so that he knew I felt it was unfair because if I was union there would be an automatic yearly raise of substantial amount regardless of earning it or not.. anyhow...
He, the manager proceeds to tell me that I will now be getting a merit raise as the company has reconsidered its policy of neglecting those due to number of years or maxing out there grade level as an Administrative Assistant. thank you Lord, while the % is lower than in previous years it beats 0%.. I then had a new appreciation for getting the overdue task at hand done and proceeded to pour out the effort on it. I came close to contacting all the vendors with a good response for immediate responses or getting back to me..
I haven't had much of "reading" books for about the last six months having a new attraction to "audible.com" and having the books read to me! I had just finished a 5 book series about an Amish community and one particular family tree as the people in the main plot were ever changing with slight references to past themes now and then.. so always new.. and I would plug into this on my ipad with the headphones when I crawl into bed at 7:45/8:00 and listen for half hour or till I fell asleep and the timer turned it off.. once in awhile Greg finds me still with the headphones on and puts it away for me.. so last night I thought I was purchasing another "audible book" on Amazon.. but it was actually a kindle READ kind of book.. so I will have a get back to the book reading for my nightly routine.. it seemed really awkward at first to be reading.. but I enjoy books and so will break my new habit of listening with my eyes shut.
Well, Shane isn't home yet and Curley is barking for dinner and attention.. time to go..
