Tuesday Change has come

Today was the first day of official change to the work hours.. Can't say that I was overly impressed with being at the office those hours, but the traffic in both directions was tolerable as well with just more people out on the roads and for the most part keeps moving.

If I don't have something to do in the morning, it will be a boring event to just sleep in and then hustle to the office.. So I reached out to my friend Virginia by text message this afternoon, she was my steadfast walking buddy every morning for numerous years.. We would meet up at 5:45 usually at my house because the cement sidewalks are in much better condition than in her neighborhood for the most part. We loved the conversation and the accountability of having someone else to share in the reason for getting up and exercising. It was good fun for all those years. But when I got transferred it ended a good thing.

So after not having connected in texting for quite some time I thought for sure she might not see the text very quick. I explained in the text about my work hours after 27 months changing from 6am to 9am, 4 days a week. That I was planning to walk in the mornings and was she interested in starting up again together for this.. But that I'd understand if she said no.  She responded pretty soon with a question of "when would my hours change" and I said "today" and I plan to start walking tomorrow.. She said that most likely the answer was YES as she hadn't done any walking since we had stopped either.. so after a little back and forth about when and where, we're back on schedule..

I definitely need the motivation of accountability and the challenge of not leaving someone else standing outside your own house that early in the morning..  We worked it out well before and with some anxious moments in the beginning  after not having walked very often in 27 months outside of the treadmill. Look forward to it once again being "fun" to be out in the fresh air.

My previous work position had my hours so flexible and close to home that there wasn't any pressure as to how long or time wise we walked.. Now with having to be on the road at 8am for a 9am start time.. theres little room to spare in getting ready, so we'll have to keep it to an hour max and probably 2.5 miles once we have been out there awhile.. We have to start with the shorter 2mile route and se how long that takes us.

On a little funnier sidenote, we have discovered that Shanes puppy Curley is not at all fond of the noise of fireworks. He becomes completely distracted from hearing you speak to him and/or heads directly to his igloo to hide out.. and I do mean directly.. The fourth of July should be interesting when the neighborhood really lights it up with the noise. It's already started now but on a much lower amount.

Well, good night
